The Central Plains Rec Plex at Southport has been receiving positive reviews and seen an increase in membership since its grand opening in Nov. 2016.

"Things have been going very good," says Manager of Recreation Colby Orchard. "Membership has grown like crazy, and we've seen a lot of different kinds of members join as well. Not just regular gym goers, but we have people using the walking track, and some people specifically here to use the climbing wall."

Orchard says their main attraction is definitely the climbing wall. "We have a lot of people using it in different ways. They're either bouldering, using auto belays, or using the top rope. We also have a competition hopefully coming up soon that we're kind of in the works for. So there are a lot of ideas of things to come."

He adds before their gym was located in the basement, and they're now in the old pool area. "So we can open up new windows and there's a lot of daylight coming in, and a lot of people are excited about that because it really spruces the place up and makes it look a lot nicer," says Orchard. "A lot of gyms are going open concept now, and this opens up a lot of space for you to do activities in certain areas."

He adds they also have two punching bags, battle ropes, and a lot of new equipment you should come and see.
