Portage la Prairie's Terry Fox Run has raised close to $12,000 for cancer research.

That's according to Coordinator Kailee Rutherford, who says around 180 people took in the walk to show their support.

"The weather definitely participated with us. It was really nice to a really good turn-out. I was actually surprised how big a turn out we did have, so it was really good to see all that support and everything else."

She still shocked they received so many donations, and says it's a really special event.

"That's really good to see, because in order to do research to help try to -- not only find a cure -- but in the meantime get better treatments, and better surgeries, and better options. It takes awareness and donations, so the more people we see here participating, it helps bring that much more awareness to it. Which in the long run helps out a lot."

Rutherford adds it was great to see so many people out from the local community, as well as out-of-towners.
