The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation will host an information session on the province's Rental Housing Improvement Program.  Executive Director Val Garlick says this initiative is being offered through Manitoba Housing, noting it provides financial assistance for landlords to improve the quality of their rental units.  Garlick says up to twenty-four thousand dollars in assistance is available for things such as electrical and plumbing improvements, heating, fire safety, and even structural improvements.  She notes the goal of the program is to ensure that any repairs being done by landlords are bringing the units up to a particular standard.

Garlick adds Portage la Prairie has quite a number of rental units, so a program like this can be very beneficial.  She says a presenter from Winnipeg will be on hand at the session, which takes place on Wednesday, August 31st, at 7 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room at PRED.  Garlick notes there are some parameters around rental rates for the units, so folks can give PCRC a call for more details.  She adds they're excited to have the chance to play host for the information session, because this is another great opportunity to improve the quality of housing in the Portage community.  If you'd like to attend, please call the PCRC at 204-240-7272.
