The red carpet was rolled out for last night's Royal Canadian Air Force Gala in Southport. The gala was in celebration of the 75th anniversary of flight training in Southport and vice emcee Captain Mike Houle comments on the night.

"We had 475 people at he Gala last night from the business community and from the military from all over the area participating in the 2nd RCAF Gala we have here in Portage. It's all in benefits of the local Portage Rotary Club."

Houle says it's great to see so much community support for an event like this.

Captain Mike Houle"The 1st ball that we had 2 years ago had 350 people at it and we've increased it by 120 people this year. The fact that we sold out in 2 weeks says tremendous things about this community and how much they support the military and Southport in itself, and how much everyone appreciates that we're here."

Houle recaps what went on during the night.

"We had a big fancy dinner for the first hour and a half, followed by some traditional military toasts that we do at military dinners. After that, we have the RCAF Jet Stream band that will be performing for about 3 hours throughout the night, and then we have some more music and dancing to finish off the night."
