Last week Southport's Accelerated Christian Education Canadian headquarters held a Global Summit with representatives from around the world, including Russia and a former member of the KGB. Len Stolyarchuk shares details of the event.

Just to be a part of this conference and be with all the educators, and to share also about our region and about our area, and what is happening back in Russia in the former U.S.S.R. countries. And then we're going to have our global reps update with all our international people here from different parts of the world: South Africa, Australia, and Canada of course. And we'll be sharing our experiences and gleaning knowledge form each other -- how we can do our ministries better."

He says situations changed in Russia allowing for Christian education.

"In 1992 the ministry of education signed a memorandum of understanding which allowed for the School of Tomorrow to be implemented in Russia and other former USSR countries. Since that time we've been operating and providing services for kids in all those countries. Right now our headquarters for international School of Tomorrow in Russia has 250 campus based students -- or brick and mortar students -- and also 200 homeschoolers. All in all, we're serving about 7,000 kids in different countries."

Stolyarchuk recounts his time with the KGB and how he became a Christian.

"I was drafted when I was at the university after the first year, even though it was not by decision, but by default that I was drafted there. But I did spend a couple of years there. And I also was a leader of the communist party at our university. But it happened in such a way that actually it was at my initiative that the Komsomol organization (formally known as the All-Union Leninist Young Communist -- the youth organization of the Communist Party), which is the prelude to the communist party was dissolved. I did have some problems with the authorities at the university, but I guess it was just one of the steps God showed me that needed to be done. And later on, when I met people from the School of Tomorrow, I got saved and so I got involved with Christian Education. It was in 1992. When I was on a train I met a group of missionaries and I got saved on this trip. One of the missionaries who was on the train introduced me to a Canadian couple who was in Moscow at the time. The Staza family. And so that's who I got involved with the School of Tomorrow."

He adds, "I'm here with my wife, Olga. We have six kids in our family, and three of them are graduates in The School of Tomorrow. We're blessed that they are Christian kids and run bible studies. They are passionate for God and passionate for Jesus Christ, and this is the greatest blessing that we got being involved with this system."
