The Town of Arborg's hoping all goes well with plans for an 80-bed personal care home. RM of Bifrost-Riverton reeve Harold Foster says this kind of facility hasn't been in the jurisdiction in the past, and is one example of business they've never handled before.

"As you're aware, it's been fairly common news that there's a great shortage of personal care home beds in Manitoba. I think the current government says we need 1,200 extra beds within a certain timeframe. It wouldn't be available for use until the end of 2019 or 2020."

Foster foresees construction to begin in the spring of 2017.

"We're hoping that it starts then. We basically have a plan that might be subject to some changes for different requirements. We are in the negotiating stage with the government now as to funding and responsibilities."

He adds this will mean jobs for quite a few people.

"Our guess is something between 100 and 120. It would be a great boost for the area. Some of these jobs also will be professional. So, the next problem will be housing."
