The Fort la Reine Museum held its 2016 museum season launch last night at the William Glesby Centre in Portage. Museum Executive Director Tracey Turner explains what they discussed at the launch.

"We had our 2016 museum season launch, so we were sharing with everyone what's in store for the museum season. We outlined all of the incredible events we have, we were selling memberships, and we had Tom Monteyne, from Monteyne Architecture Works, sharing concept designs for a new visitor centre which is a future project that we're trying to get community momentum behind, and fundraise for at the Fort la Reine Museum."

She outlines one of the museum's new programs called 'Meet You', which is a social evening for adults, every Wednesday night from June 29th-August 31st.

"We have an eclectic mix of experts and people coming to talk about all kinds of different subjects. They'll cover anything from fly fishing to star gazing to pioneer gardening, and they'll chat for a bit and we'll all have some refreshments, we'll tour the museum a little bit and then we'll make or do something together based on what we learned that night. It's sort of a different take on the museum by making it a little bit more participatory and it gives adults something to do on a nice weekday evening in the summer."

The museum also launched two fundraising campaigns, which will go toward upgrades and renovations to the museum.

"We're about $55,000 into one of our fundraising projects, which is our 'Fund the Fort' campaign, to fix and refurbish the Fort; we have to get to $180,000 in order to do it. The other project is a fundraising campaign for a new visitors centre, and we're hoping to raise about $2,000,000 within the next two years. We have ambitious goals, but we're willing to take on the challenge and work really hard to complete them."
