Evacuees from Long Plain First Nation have been staying in a Portage la Prairie hotel for several days now, after having been located to Winnipeg immediately after the tornado devastation two weeks ago. Sheila Daniels is one of them, and shares her plight.

Sheila Daniels"I've been evacuated on medical reasons because I've got a rare disease. I have no telephone at home. I've been rushed to the hospital already three times since the tornado, so that's why I'm here. The staff here are good. I really want to get going, but I can't right now."

She adds, "For now it's just a waiting game. You kind of sit here and wait. We got here from Winnipeg on Thursday (July 29th), but I was evacuated two weeks ago after the tornado hit. I seen all the tornadoes, but I didn't know two passed by my house."

Cylas Meeches is here with his family of seven. He notes it's been a waiting game.

Cylas Meeches"Usually sitting around waiting to hear what's new -- any updates on the situation. I'm from near the edge of Long Plain. When the storm hit, we were moved to Winnipeg. And we stayed for about a week or two, and then we came here only a couple of days ago."

He says his family of seven paid a visit to their house.

"The crawlspace flooded. And when we got back from Winnipeg, went to to go check up on the house and it smells like mould. It gave us a couple of headaches, so we just left."

Arrowhead Development Corp.'s Mary Pratt told us the night of the tornado that they evacuated families with newborns, and elderly people with disabilities and health issues, as well as those whose homes were heavily damaged.
