A Portage la Prairie church and a Winnipeg photographer are organizing a drive to help the family affected by a fatal fire at Delta Beach.

Merle Cyr and Melissa Moore lost their four-year-old son Landon in the blaze earlier this week. Their home was entirely razed, and all of their belongings lost. Solid Rock Ministries is hosting a drive on Nov. 12 in support of the family. Church rep April Byers says they're looking for items like household appliances, clothes, toiletries, diapers, baby wipes, bedding and non-perishable food. Cash donations will also be accepted.

"All the proceeds will go directly to Merle and Melissa," Byers says. "It's important we show our support to the family as a community."

Byers says a Christmas scene will be set up, and those who contribute can get a Christmas photo taken by Simard Strong Photography. She adds anyone who can't attend the drive -- which will take place from 1-4 p.m. on Nov. 12 -- can still arrange to make a donation by contacting organizers through Facebook.

"I am willing to pick up any donations that people may have for the family," Byers says.
