The 'Victor Walk' was a complete success at Island Park in Portage la Prairie yesterday.

Guest Speaker Theoren Fleury says it all started a little while back when he called up a friend, and asked if he wanted to go for a walk.

"He said, where are we going? I said I was thinking about walking from Toronto to Ottawa, and he said okay, Let's go! What's come from that has just been an outpouring, and really sort of an education too on how prevalent mental health addictions, and trauma are. And that they are together."

Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association Central Region Jordan Friesen says the crowd was hanging on Theo's words when he was on stage.

"A dead silence. You could hear a pin drop on grass, which is quite something. I think it speaks to the wide applicability of what Theo's talking about. He's talking about trauma, he's talking about experiences that are the core of what it means to be human really. So the silence -- I think -- is an indication that what he was saying resonated with a lot of people."

Fleury adds he never expected to have so many people coming up to him and sharing their stories, and he's happy to have helped if he has.
