Yesterday's provincial election saw a number of new MLAs win seats in the legislature.

One is Eileen Clarke, who's the new Conservative member for Agassiz. After almost a year of preparation, she's excited to move forward with the Pallister government's agenda, which includes an audit of the province's finances.

"You can't proceed with anything until you know what your debt load is, to go forward and plan projects or anything like that. You have to start at the basics, and that's what i feel the PC party will be doing, we'll be starting at square 1, and I think that's totally the right thing to do."

Clarke isn't certain what expectations there might be for her.

"And I may not know that for a while, but there's going to be a lot of work to do. As far as balancing it, my family is very well aware of my commitment to Agassiz, and the province of Manitoba, and we're totally good with it, we have everything in place."

Clarke feels her time as vice-president of the Association of Manitoba Municipalities will be an asset, because she's accustomed to being away from home for extended periods.
