It's still almost three weeks before the 9th Central Plains Challenge Walk happens in Portage la Prairie, but organizers need you to get on board now.

It's a significant fundraiser for Central Plains Cancer Care Services, and Committee Chair Jakob Lautenschlaeger outlines what the funds raised go toward.

"Taking cancer patients to see the doctors, to get their treatments, every day (or) every second day, depending on the schedule you're on. And that could be financially draining. Central Plains Cancer Care offers services in 72 communities around Portage, up to Neepawa. And if you haver to srived from Neepawa to Winnipeg every day, we're talking a lot of money, and Central Plains Cancer care would help out with that."

Lautenschlaeger hopes you'll get involved.

"We all need to do our part to support people who are affected by that (cancer). I mean, you're healthy, you're able to. And for us to raise a little bit of money, and come out to do the walk or not to do the walk, it's up to you. We offer a 5 kilometre walk, 10 kilometre walk, 15 (kilometres). The idea is to give awarenes to the people, and to the kids. To teach them what's important, to help

Jakob Lautenschlaeger and Annabelle, who'll also be part of the Challenge Walkout."

The Challenge Walk has helped out to the tune of about $465,000 over eight years, and he expects to top $500,000 after this year's event.

You can register at Central Plains Cancer Care, Cobbe's Plumbing and Heating, or on-line.
