The Community Foundation of Portage and District just released an announcement of the newly established Portage and District Wildlife fund. Portage Country Club board member Kelly Collett explains the nature of the fund.

Kelly Collett"The Portage Country Club was looking to set up a fund where current and past members, outdoor enthusiasts, and supporters of the country club can make a tax deductible donation to a charity or a foundation that could assist in the financial support of wildlife, or environmental, or educational training as it relates to the betterment of the Delta Marsh."

He tells us where the idea came from.

"The original idea came from a member of the Portage Country Club, David Brown, who has passed away here on February 24th. He was adamant in his belief that he wanted to ensure that generations to come could enjoy the outdoors as he did. Continued neglect of wildlife and environmentally sensitive areas would never allow his children to enjoy a valuable asset that the great outdoors of Manitoba provides."

Collett says the purpose of the fund will benefit outdoor enthusiasts of all stripes.

"Our ultimate goal with this fund is to have a fund whereby outdoor enthusiasts, whether it be hunters, fishermen, ATV riders, snowmobilers all have a place to give back to future generations so they can enjoy the outdoors as well. We want everyone to have a spot so that everyone can enjoy the outdoors."
