The ribbon was cut for Southport's upgraded Central Plains RecPlex facility Tuesday afternoon. Manager of Recreation Colby Orchard spoke, along with several special guests including Portage Mayor Irvine Ferris, Reeve Kam Blight, and MLA and Minister of Education and Training Ian Wishart. The speakers lined up and cut the ribbon at the same moment before a good gathering.

Orchard outlines the highlights of the event.

"We had our grand opening and event, and had a lot of great speakers out. We're having 10% off memberships, free admission and just giving people a chance to check out the facility."

Orchard says several tried out the facility.

"We're having folks climb on the wall, trying out the fitness equipment, and just basically seeing how everything works. We have a door prize right now for a one-year membership, and we also have a few other contests throughout the facility for one-year memberships."
