The first ever Love Carman event will take place at the Ryall Park, Sunday, August 14th.

The event which is sponsored by the Carman Mennonite Church will be serving hotdogs and drinks and providing free entertainment.

"We have a lot of talent in our church at Carman Mennonite," shared Council Board Secretary Tracy Enns. "We have put out the call for people to come down and volunteer to play for the community so we will have some old country and western lined up with Banjo picking. We have some modern country, folk music and some instrumental, so a little bit of variety."

Enns noted the program starts at 4 p.m. and is for more than the local churches but also the entire community.

She explained where the Love Carman idea came from.

"A couple months ago during a Sunday morning service, one of our pastor's asked the question of our congregation 'Would the community notice if Carman Mennonite Church all of a sudden was no longer there?' That really got us thinking and during our Sunday school time we tried to think of a way to get a better presence in the community and show our support. This was something we wanted to start this year. Provide a small little party for the community and the surrounding area."

Meanwhile, Enns added the church hopes to develop Love Carman into a larger full day service for volunteers to make an impact in the future.

Some different ways to go out and show love to your community include giving your time to help a stranger clean up his yard, cut a friend's lawn or babysit some kids in the neighbourhood.
