Five hundred-thirty five kids registered for the 2016 Summer Reading Program at the Boyne Regional Library. The annual program sees students sign out books to read while on break from school and encourages kids to do so by offering them chances to win prizes based on the number of books signed out and read.

Program Coordinator Erica Wiebe says a total of 13,445 books were read over the eight week period.

"It went really well, our goal was five hundred and fifty six kids (so) we didn't quite make that."

She adds forty-eight students also took advantage of the Summer Membership Program. This allows kids in the R.M. of Grey and R.M. of Roland to sign out books at the Carman library free of charge during the summer months when schools are closed.

Wiebe notes some of the more popular selections this summer were the Mr. Men and Little Miss books, Clifford the Big Red Dog, stories by Robert Munsch and Garfield comics. She did say there was a group of kids re-reading the Harry Potter series as well.
