Some young Portage la Prairie workers are getting experience -- and a little cash too -- with the Manitoba Youth Job Centre's Odd Job Squad. They were selling freezies at the PCU Centre yesterday.

13-year-old Squad member Blake Richardson gives his reasons for signing up.

"I was looking for an iPod, and I kind of wanted to work. So this was an opportunity. We did a strawberry pick, and a cheese dip sale. "

14-year-old Eden Arksey outlines her reason for signing up, and explains how things have been going.

"Because I wanted to make money during the summer. We just do odd jobs around the city, and it's been going really good. like cutting grass and stuff like that."

Richardson says it's a great way to earn some un-taxed cash.

"This is a good idea. It's a fun opportunity to get a little bit of cash and it's a good experience to start working before you have to pay taxes and stuff."

Keep an eye out for the Odd Jobs Squad around Portage.
