Portage la Prairie firefighters responded to three calls last night, and early this morning.

The first was around 9:40 last night, when a garage on a property off Highway 305 near Long Plain was reported on fire. When crews arrived, they found a dog kennel near the garage was burning. The kennel was destroyed, but the garage wasn't damaged.

Just after 10 o'clock, crews were called to deal with a reported marsh fire near Delta. It turned out to be a fire stretching about 200 feet in a ditch along the approach to Delta. It was quickly extinguished.

At 5 this morning, a call came in about a carbon monoxide alarm in a home in the northwest corner of the city. When firefighters arrived, their detectors found no trace of carbon monoxide, but the family left to stay with relatives. There was a power outage in the area at the time, and it's thought that's what triggered the alarm.
