A local woman is in Boston tomorrow to run in the annual Boston Marathon.

Crystal Bedard of Portage la Prairie ran in the Marathon last year, and qualified again this year thanks to her time at the Manitoba Marathon last June. Bedard explains how it felt to qualify for a second year.

"I had a hunch that I would qualify this year because my time was a lot better. I was 11 minutes under the qualifying time, I ran a 3:34 at the Father's Day race this past year at the University of Manitoba so I had a good feeling. When I found out, I was extremely proud and pumped to know that I'd be representing Portage again."

Bedard says she's been training for months for the marathon, but notes she loves to run so it never feels like work. She says the Boston Marathon is an experience like no other.

"It is just the most amazing run ever. I was so excited last year, and when I got there I was wearing Canadian colours representing Portage and Canada. The spectators are what make the race so unique and so special and they did nothing but encourage us to do our best. They yelled 'Way to go Canada!' and they would even sing the Canadian anthem as you were running by. I am really proud to be a Canadian and represent Portage la Prairie."
