The Portage la Prairie Regional Library's annual book sale launched this morning.

It's a fundraiser that typically bring in about $10,000.

Program Coordinator Lori Mackadenski says they have another large selection for you, noting they come from a number of sources.

"Periodically, our head Librarian, Percy Gregoire-Voskamp, goes through the books that aren't really circulating frequently. They get pulled off the shelves, and they'll go to the book sale, but the majority come from people in Portage. And Portage MCC also, every two weeks or so, they give us a call and say they have some books. So we have fabulous people who donate to our sale."

Mackadenski stresses proceeds from the book sale go toward programs at the library.

"It is huge for us at the library, because all of our programs are no charge, and they're open for everyone. We try to make sure that we have something for all age groups, and the book sale really helps us to be able offer these programs free, so it's affordable for everybody in Portage."
