The Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar is asking her constituents to help push for a reversal of a Liberal government decision to ban a large capacity firearms magazine. Candice Bergen says with just one stroke of a pen, the bureaucrats in Ottawa have decided to make the Ruger 10/22 illegal after decades of legal and responsible use by law-abiding Canadians. Bergen notes she's been encouraging people to write the Minister of Public Safety to express their concern and urge that the decision be overturned. She adds the Conservative party fully understands that rural citizens are good people and responsible gun owners, so they should not be labeled as criminals.

Bergen says she's seen this many times over the years, where the folks in Ottawa fail to understand the rural way of life. She notes it's wrong to make these restrictions, because they're punishing people who are obeying the law instead of actual criminals. Bergen says we need instead to crack down on people who are using guns in crimes and in domestic violence situations, adding if individuals are violent and threaten their spouses then they shouldn't have firearms.
