The Green Party has selected Robert Smith as their candidate in the Agassiz Riding for the upcoming election. Smith explains why he wanted to run, and lists a few of his qualifications.

"I was School President of Austin Elementary School, and I've had a keen desire since then to serve the public. I've served the public through the church, Sydney United Church, I was an elder. Through Pine Creek School Division as a School Trustee for 20 years. Through the Agents of Range Patrol, I've been Captain since 1983, and through the Austin Chamber of Commerce and volunteering at the Austin Agricultural Museum."

Smith outlines a few of the issues their concentrating on.

"Well the issues of the Green Party, number 1 is the minimum income for people, especially the working poor. The school tax should be taken off farm land, farm land doesn't produce kids, houses produce kids. Number 3 is the whole green initiative, to give you an example, the Green Party supports logging. Where you cut down a tree, and then let it grow up and it continues to produce oxygen."

Smith's excited for the upcoming election and welcomes any feedback from people in the community.
