Portage la Prairie City Council's Accessibility Open House was last night at the PCU Centre.

Dozens showed up to voice their positive, and negative comments about the City's work making Portage more accessible for everyone. One concerned citizen was Judy Nagribianko, who's son struggles with mental and physical disabilities.

"His left side, the arm he doesn't use at all and his leg is semi-paralysed. So we walk, but with great care and quite a few falls all the time, and he has seizure activity some day too."

She says there's one street, in particular, she'd like to be addressed sooner-than-later.

"8th Street. I've been after Mayor Ferris about 8th street, and he is trying to clean it up. Especially from Saskatchewan Avenue to the tracks there's a lot of people, it's unbelievable all the people walking there, and a lot of them are young people with babies and carriages, and bicycles and all kinds of stuff like that. It should be wonderful, they should be able to walk there without falling over sidewalks."

Accessibility Committee Chair Jocelyn Lequier-Jobin says gives an outline of what went on.

"There was a lot of people sharing things about what types of barriers they experience in the city. So it gives us a lot of ideas of what things we can improve on. There was definitely people who were happy about the paths we've paved recently, and just that the City was having this event to ask for people's opinions."

Lequier-Jobin adds they'll have their plan out for 2017, and welcome all types of feedback when it's up on their website.
