Tomorrow sees the ninth annual Central Plains Challenge Walk and Run.

It's a major fundraiser for Central Plains Cancer Care Services, that's generated just under $470,000 in the previous eight events, and committee member Jane Tully expects this year will see them break the $500,000 mark. She says it feels good to know what they've accomplished.

"And to know that all of the funds that have come in have come from people who are involved because they're related in some manner to someone who has dealt with cancer, or is currently dealing with cancer. And that all of the funds that come to us remain within the Central Plains Services area, which involves 72 communities surrounding Portage."

Tully's grateful for the community's ongoing support of the Walk and Run, noting while it appears constant, it's actually changing.

"Some people are with us one year, because they are closely involved with someone who's dealing with a cancer diagnosis. And then as they move on to support other things, and are involved in other processes, other people, of course, are diagnosed newly, and come in. We also have a really good support sector of people who work with people who have cancer, and we find that is fairly stable."

Tomorrow's Walk and Run starts at the MNP building with registration at 7:30 a.m. They'll take walk-up registrations until start time.

Tully's also grateful to their many corporate sponsors.
