It'll be a blast from the past at MacGregor's Nor-Mac centre Saturday night, as a couple of high school bands from the 70's join up for a reunion dance in support of the volunteer fire department.

The Final Hour and Strange Brew hit the stage around 9 o'clock, and will alternate sets until about 1 am.

Strange Brew singer Wayne Klippenstein says both bands know how important the fire department is for the community.

"They have over 20 volunteers that provide a critical service. They're always looking for money, to improve their equipment and improve their services. So they are providing the manpower for the dance, and all the funds are going to the fire department for future expenditures."

Klippenstein says The Final Hour played between 1970-73, followed by Strange Brew from '74 to '76.

"Two distinct groups, two distinct periods of the 1970's, but both exposed to the same concept rural Manitoba had, something that ended in the late '70's. Moving around from town to town, in the high schools and the halls, it was dances. No liquor permits, literally just a band, and the place would fill up."

He adds they hope for a large, diverse crowd.

"I do want to stress that it is open to all years, because  there has been some mis-conceptions it was for classes from 1970 to '76. That is not accurate."
