The 38th annual Portage Rotary Club vegetable sale outside of Portage Co-op started today, and the site was inundated with customers. Vegetable sale chair James Bolton describes the turnout.

"It is a beautiful day, and even prior to opening the door we had to turn away about 25 to 30 people. As soon as we were finally up and running, not even at full capacity, we were swamped off our feet. So, it's been a really good start to a good fundraiser."

He adds it's Rotary's biggest annual fundraiser.

"Not only is it great for Rotary and the great things that Rotary does for the community, but it's also fresh, local vegetables. Everything looks great this year, and it's all reasonably priced. It's a win-win for everybody."

Elaine Porteous is from Marquette, and was one of the customers.

"I think it's important to help out. The vegetables are fresh and there are good deals. I'm from out of town so I just try to come in for this."

The sale continues until Saturday.
