Despite the rain at times throughout the event, the 137th Annual Carman Country Fair was a success. Hundreds of residents came from all over the Pembina Valley last week to check out the festivities and entertainment throughout this three day event.

Junien Riedstra, who works with the Dufferin Agricultural Society, says they try to get lots of new events every year to keep things fresh and give everybody a positive experience.

“So one of the things that we did for children, we created a scavenger hunt book. It's like little questions and then kids can pick up this book and go around the fair and answer questions,” Riedstra says. “I've had people come, even adults, and they're super excited about getting it. The prizes are pretty easy, but it's just for fun and encourages people to see the whole fair.”

Riedstra notes that some of the highlights included demo derbies, livestock shows, the exhibit hall and food vendors. She says that while the 4H FunFest wasn't apart of this years lineup of events, the fairgrounds were still busy, despite a slower start.

“I did notice that Thursday and Friday the numbers were down, but that was also because we didn't have favourable weather on Thursday. I don't know if that had to do with having FunFest or not. The 4H had other things going on. I did hear that FunFest wasn't as popular in the other city that's happening this year.”

Riedstra notes that the new lumberjack event was a success as well, filling up the grandstands on Saturday. She says they hope to get more new events for next year to keep the Carman Country Fair fresh and exciting.
