Central Plains Cancer Services is receiving some funding from a purple hair campaign in Portage la Prairie. Volunteer Preston Meier's hoping to dye his hair with twelve others. Golden West Radio Portage la Prairie Station Manager Paul Harland will also sport a purple do.

Meier says a fundraising campaign is underway.

"We started the campaign a few days ago. With thanks to the PCI hairstyling, if each of the people involved in it hit our goal, then we're all going to dye our hair purple in support of cancer on December 6th, with the reveal happening on December 7th."

He explains the idea started in 2012.

"Jean-Marc Nadeau at that point in time just had a conversation with his daughters and wanted to do something in support of cancer. So, he decided to come with dying his hair pink. He was inspector of the RCMP at that point, so it was a little bit out there. He was president of Rotary at that time. So, I asked what I could do to help. He told me to come onboard with him. Between the two of us, we decided to do a little bit of a campaign."
