The Westpark Royals came away with two wins last night in Zone 4 High School Basketball.

The varsity girls took out Rosenort 49-48 at Westpark School. Faith Carnegie scored the game-winning basket with nine seconds to go in the game.

"When I first got the basket, I didn't realize it was the game-winning basket," laughs Carnegie. "After that, it was pretty exciting and exhilarating. We played a little slow off the start, but then we got our passes on and things really came together for a good win."

Grade 11 Royal Kristen Brewer won the Manitoba High School Athletic Association's Tire Recycle Rural Athlete of the Week before the game.

"It's funny because it was always my co-captains winning the award. So for me to get it is pretty cool because I usually don't take too many shots, I basically lead on the defensive side. So to be recognized for that is really cool."

She adds it's great to be part of a school that supports you win or lose. "It's great to be part of a school that's always motivating you. We brought in new people this year, and we're still a really close knit team. It's almost like a family of teammates."

Westpark's varsity boys also picked up a win over Rosenort. They won 69-61. Both clubs are back in action Thursday when they head to Vita.

PCI's junior varsity clubs were in Winnipeg for West Winnipeg Athletic Conference Tier 2 basketball against Elmwood.

The Saints won 57-23 over the Giants, while the Trojans fell 55-52.

The JV clubs are back in action Thursday. The Trojans visit St. James, the Saints host Kelvin.
