The Central Plains Capitals rebounded from Saturday's loss to Eastman with a big win over Kenora in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. 58 shots helped them beat the Thistles 5-1 at the BDO Centre Sunday afternoon.

"We had a lot more puck luck today compared to Saturday," says Caps' forward Jordan Rogers. "We had a couple of bad bounces and a couple of posts (in that game), and it just wasn't happening for us. Today we had a great game and came out with a win, and that's big."

Kenora's Jacob Clendenning scored the game's opening goal on the powerplay, but the Thistles didn't have much to celebrate after that. Tyler Van Deynze evened the game up at 1-1 two minutes later on the powerplay. Zak Smith added another with the extra attacker to make it 2-1 before the end of the first.

Jaxon Blight extended the Caps' lead when he scored their third goal of the game 1:43 into the second period. "It was a real nice passing play," says Blight. "Our line had some nice movement. Funk got the puck and gave it to me, I gave it to Calder and then he found me at the back door. It was a good goal." Logan Calder would also find the back of the net in the second period. Blight returned the favour and picked up and assist on the play.

Van Deynze would add his second of the night late in the third to officially put the game out of reach of the Thistles. Netminder Miles Minor went 1-1 over the weekend, falling to Eastman Saturday night. He made 19 saves for the win Sunday.

The Caps' next game is Saturday when they visit Pembina Valley in Morden.
