The Central Plains Capitals' Midget clubs were on opposite sides of their respective scoresheets Saturday.

The Caps fell 5-0 to Pembina Valley in Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League action at the BDO Centre.
"We gave them their goals," says head coach Ferdi Nellisen. "We had some good moments but we weren't consistent enough. They turned our mistakes to goals and we didnt take advantage of our opportunities."

The Caps play Pembina Valley again Sunday at 4:45 p.m. at the BDO Centre.

Central Plains were 5-4 winners over Brandon in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League in Brandon.

"The boys played a solid first couple of periods," says head coach Brad Gnidjeiko. "Brandon played well too, but they weren't able to bury their chances, plus, Miles Minor was very good through out."

Reilly Funk opened the scoring for the Capitals in a physical first period. There were seven penalties in the period, three for the Capitals. They scored once with the extra attacker, Chance Dickenson scored to make it two-nothing.

It was all Central Plains in the second and they came away with three goals after another 20 minutes. Zak Smith scored shorthanded, Tyler Van Deynze scored on the powerplay, and Lane Taylor added the final Caps goal of the night, and eventual game winner.

"Brandon came at us hard to start the third and got a goal early," says Gnidjeiko. "We were on our heels for a time and they got a few greasy goals."

He adds the boys hung on and had a better finish to the late stage of the third to get the win.

The win moves the Caps into third place. They host sixth place Pembina Valley at 1 p.m. Sunday at the BDO a Centre.
