- Next year Portage has the honour of hosting the Viterra Championship, which crowns a provincial curling champion. Lots of big names will be competing at the PCU Centre and if you'd like to help by being a volunteer, this week there is a volunteer blitz at the Portage Curling Club. Stop by between 6-8 Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to sign up.

- Portage Plains United Way is 30% of the way to their campaign goal, good, but we could help them out to get even closer. Wednesday is the MGEU Spaghetti Luncheon in support of PPUW at the Herman Prior Centre. 11-1 you can go and enjoy a spaghetti lunch for $9, with some new options added this year including gluten free and vegetarian. Call 857-4440 to pre-order by Monday at 4pm if you want it delivered, or show up to eat in at the Herman Prior.

- Flu season will be upon us soon. Rather than deal with being sick you could just get the shot and be in the clear. The PCU Centre will host a clinic Wednesday from 10-7. Do it up!

- Big 'W' for the Terriers over the weekend as they redeemed their 9-2 loss to Winkler from a week back. They'll look to continue their win streak Wednesday night against Swan Valley. Game time is 7:30 at the PCU Centre. Friday night they'll hit the road to take on Neepawa. Both games will be broadcast on POL, pregame shows start at 7:20.

- Monday is the last day to donate to Koats For Kids, so make sure to do that. Then Thursday the coats that have been collected will begin to be dispersed to those who need them.

- We're about to fall backward Saturday. That means before you go to bed Saturday night set your clocks an hour back, official change is at 2am.

- As of Monday the Shindleman Aquatic Centre will be closed for the foreseeable future. No word on when the work to fix it will commence but they've set up an agreement with a hotel pool to still offer swimming lessons. Check out their website for more.

- Monday is the last chance to get early bird Homes for the Holidays tickets. Don't worry, you can get them afterwards just the price goes up slightly. Solomon's, Schpansky's, Mil-Jeanne's, Bryson's and Canadian Tire all have tickets, get on it! This year's tour is November 12th.
