Portagers are no strangers to fishing, but those hoping to hit the water will need to know the new rules.

Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources Minister Jamie Moses has announced that the 2024 Manitoba Anglers' Guide is available online, with its regulations taking effect on April 1.

"Our province is proud to be a leader in recreational fisheries management,” says Moses. “By following fishing regulations, you will help ensure our fisheries remain healthy so that you can enjoy many more years of angling adventures.”

Manitoba fishers are encouraged to protect the waters from aquatic invasive species. This can be done by simply cleaning their watercraft and any related equipment.

Regarding walleye and sauger, the southern division will be closed until May 11. Anglers must not target these species until the season opens.

2024 angling licences are available to purchase online and at participating vendors beginning April 1, becoming valid on May 1. 2023 licences are valid until the end of April.
