The Invictus Games Flag Tour stopped into Portage la Prairie Wednesday afternoon.

Brandon's Ross Robinson was the flag bearer that made the trek from Brandon, Manitoba, to Portage la Prairie.

"I've had friends who have died in combat, on exercises or training. I also have friends that have been wounded in combat and in training too," says Robinson. "It's really important that we show the support for those families and people who are still with us for their sacrifice. This is a small part I can play to raise awareness and be part of a great thing."

Invictus Games competitors are the men and women who have come face-to-face with the reality of making a sacrifice for their country. Greg Danko is the coordinator for the National Flag Tour. He says they've received outstanding support from Team Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Legion, and other members of the public who are getting involved. He says the Invictus Games in Toronto will have 17 Nations competing including Canada, United States, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Australia to name a few.

"Every year we add another nation to the Invictus Games roster of countries," adds Danko. "Canada added two this year actually, we added Ukraine and Romania so both of them will get to compete in the games. The flag tour is stopping at 22 Canadian Forces Bases, 15 Royal Canadian Legions, 50 communities, and the tour takes place over 37 days."

Robinson adds it's important to give the wounded an opportunity to compete and have some fun. Learn all about the Invictus Games here.
