Two local charities benefitted from Portage La Prairie's MCC Charity Day Tuesday.

Both Central Plains Cancer Services (CPCS) and Sunset Palliative Care received $1000 cheques to help support their cause.

"It was a great day and it was the first charity day since I've been involved with CPCS," says Executive Director Sharilyn Knox. "The support the community has been giving us has been amazing, especially today. It's great to be here with Sunset Palliative Care as well."

Knox says the funds will go directly to their transportation program. Aldene Moroz with Sunset Palliative Care says they'll be using the funds to help send some individuals to an education and training program in Winnipeg.

"September 15th we have 15 people who are involved with palliative care going to a two-day conference in Winnipeg," says Moroz. "So this will really help us out a lot. It's great because it ripples down to everyone in the community because the people that getting the skills share them with others."

MCC Manager Kevin Ham was pleased with the support from the community and says it's something they see every MCC Charity Day.
