A man has been arrested and charged by Headingley RCMP after an assault involving arson was reported on Sunday.

The police report states that on April 28, around 5:40 p.m., Headingley RCMP responded to an assault in progress at a residence in the RM of Macdonald.

RCMP noted that a woman was suffering from burn injuries and that the suspect was still at the scene.

The suspect and victim are reportedly known to each other. Officers immediately attended along with Emergency Medical Services and the Fire Department.

The 48-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she remains.

The 49-year-old man, the main suspect to police in this case, was arrested. He has been charged with:

  • Arson Endangering Life
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Breach of Release Order
  • The man was remanded into custody.

Headingley RCMP continue to investigate.
